Joaquim Segalés is a distinguished veterinarian and researcher specializing in porcine infectious diseases, pathology, and animal models. He earned his DVM and PhD from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), where he currently serves as a Full Professor in the Department of Animal Health and Anatomy. His academic career includes significant international experience, notably a research tenure at the University of Minnesota. He is a board-certified Diplomate of both the European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP) and the European College of Porcine Health Management (ECPHM), having served as the latter's president from 2013 to 2016. In addition to his academic role, Dr. Segalés is a prominent researcher at the Centre de Recerca en Sanitat Animal (IRTA-CReSA), where he previously served as Director. He has been instrumental in coordinating international research efforts, including his role as coordinator of the OIE Collaborating Center for research and control of emerging and re-emerging pig diseases in Europe. His extensive contributions to veterinary science have been recognized with numerous awards, including multiple European PCV2-Awards and honors from the One Health Platform and the Barcelona Official Veterinary Chamber.
