Dr. Karin Allenspach is a distinguished clinician-scientist with over two decades of experience in academic veterinary medicine. She holds a Dr. med. vet. and a Ph.D., and is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (DECVIM-CA). Her clinical and research expertise focuses on small animal internal medicine, with a specific emphasis on gastroenterology and oncology. Throughout her career, she has maintained a strong commitment to advancing veterinary science through both clinical practice and rigorous academic research. Currently serving as a Professor of Comparative Medicine in the Department of Pathology at the University of Georgia, Dr. Allenspach leads a laboratory dedicated to the study of canine adult stem-cell-derived epithelial organoids. Her work involves the phenotypic and functional characterization of these organoids in comparison to human and mouse models, as well as the application of patient-derived tumor organoids (PDOs) to predict in vivo treatment responses in cancer patients. She is also a co-author of the textbook Feline Gastroenterology, which provides a comprehensive, medic-focused perspective on feline alimentary tract health.
