Matteo Chiapasco is a distinguished Professor of Oral Surgery at the University of Milan and the Head of the Clinical Unit of Oral Surgery within the Department of Biomedical, Surgical, and Dental Sciences. He earned his medical degree and completed his specialization in maxillofacial surgery at the University of Milan. Throughout his career, he has held significant academic roles, including serving as a Visiting Associate Professor at Loma Linda University in California and as a faculty member at Egas Moniz University in Lisbon. His clinical and research expertise focuses on orthognathic surgery, advanced implant dentistry, and complex preprosthetic surgical procedures, including reconstructions for severe atrophy, tumor defects, and congenital malformations. Beyond his academic and clinical work, Professor Chiapasco has held leadership positions in several prestigious professional organizations. He is a former President of the Italian Society of Oral Surgery (2002-2004) and the Italian Academy of Osseointegration (2014-2016), and he is a founder of the latter. He is also an active member of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) and a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI), having served as the President of its Italian section. A prolific author, he has contributed to over 130 international peer-reviewed papers and authored or co-authored approximately 15 textbooks on oral and maxillofacial surgery, which have been translated into numerous languages.
