About
Dr. Nicolle L. Barbieri is an accomplished researcher and educator specializing in poultry microbiology and the pathogenesis of extra-intestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli (ExPEC). Her work focuses on understanding the virulence factors, antimicrobial resistance, and molecular mechanisms of avian pathogenic E. coli (APEC), as well as their relationship with human pathogens such as UPEC and NMEC. She has contributed extensively to the field through her research on biofilm formation and molecular diagnostics in poultry production. Dr. Barbieri earned her Ph.D. and M.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, following her B.S. in Pharmacy. She has held academic positions at the University of Georgia, where she has served in the Department of Population Health at the Poultry Diagnostic and Research Center. She is also a recognized author in veterinary literature, having contributed to professional guides on colibacillosis in poultry.
