About
Dr. Søren Boysen is a distinguished veterinarian and a Full Professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences at the University of Calgary's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. A pioneer in the field of veterinary point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), he is internationally recognized for his contributions to emergency and critical care (ECC) education and clinical standards. He is a founding member and Education Chair of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care UltraSound (VECCUS) working group and has co-led international initiatives to establish evidence-based POCUS consensus statements and CPR standards. Dr. Boysen is deeply committed to clinical education, curriculum development, and the mentorship of students, interns, and residents, having played a foundational role in developing the undergraduate Doctor of Veterinary Medicine curriculum at the University of Calgary. After earning his DVM from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan, Dr. Boysen completed a small animal internship at the Atlantic Veterinary College and a residency in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care at Tufts University, becoming a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (DACVECC) in 2003. Prior to his tenure at the University of Calgary, he served as the Chief of Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care at the Université de Montréal, where he established the ECC specialty in Quebec and developed a residency training program. An accomplished author and speaker, he has lectured in over 30 countries and received numerous awards for his excellence in teaching and research, including the 2023 Jack Mara Scientific Achievement Award.
