About
Dr. Steven McOrist is a distinguished veterinarian and researcher recognized for his pioneering work in the identification and cultivation of Lawsonia intracellularis, the causative agent of porcine proliferative enteropathy. A graduate of the University of Melbourne, he completed his PhD at the University of Edinburgh, where he led the research team that first successfully cultured the pathogen and fulfilled Koch’s postulates for the disease. His foundational research has been instrumental in the development of modern vaccines and therapeutic strategies for swine health globally. Throughout his career, Dr. McOrist has held significant academic and industry positions, including senior research roles at Tufts University and the University of Nottingham, where he taught microbiology and swine medicine.
