Managing Tooth Wear. A Comprehensive Guide for General Practice
(Tax incl.)
Dental practice has never been more interesting, and the field of tooth wear satisfies so many aspects of the skills we are trained to use: applying a medical diagnostic model to dentistry, design and artistry, sculpture and engineering, use of innovative technology, and the science of dental materials. It requires detective work and lateral thinking, empathy, and listening.
Most of all, it’s about offering confidence and reassurance to patients who are often discovering for the first time that chemical and physical forces are damaging their teeth. But not all tooth wear needs treatment. How, then, does a clinician make the distinction, and what drives us to intervene? Does a patient believe they have a problem, and what is the distinction between physiologic and pathologic wear? Was it necessary when more conservative interdisciplinary solutions would be more appropriate? How can we combine interdisciplinary dentistry, such as orthodontics, to offer less aggressive alternatives to patients? This book will weigh all aspects of the treatment options and the motivation for managing tooth wear. Above all, it focuses on biological, functional, and ethical rationale with the goal of enamel conservation and protection at the forefront.
“This book is an absolute must read for every dentist. Tooth wear is a prevalent condition that we see on a daily basis in dental practice, yet we often struggle to diagnose and treatment plan accordingly. This book gives incredibly detailed insight into diagnosis and treatment, addressing the crossover with medical conditions, and giving the dental practitioner practical advice and techniques on how to proceed. Dr Shepperson truly is the ‘tooth wear dentist.’ The depth of knowledge shared is incredible and presented in a ‘put into practice’ tomorrow style. This is an invaluable guidebook for modern dentistry.”
Dr. Elaine Halley, Perth, Scotland
Your comprehensive approach including a step-by-step proven formula of every facet of the doctor/patient experience from meeting the patient, to diagnosing and treating them is superb.”
Dr. Maria Lopez Howell, New Braunfels, Texas
“Dr. Shepperson has masterfully taken a complex topic and transformed it into digestible, practical pieces. The organization and thoroughness with which the text unfolds is a testament to her elegant and assured teaching style. Deeply researched and comprehensively presented.”
Dr. Wael Garine, West Palm Beach, FL
“Beyond periodontal disease and dental caries, the future dentist is going to fight the battle for tooth longevity and oral health at the forefront of dental wear. They are going to need not just a guiding voice to walk them through the complex presentations, etiologies and treatment planning in tooth wear cases but also an ally who can make this knowledge accessible to their patients. I recommend you buy two copies of this book: one for your reference and one for lending out to your patients. Andrea has written a book that goes into every last depth, breadth and detail of tooth wear and, yet it is an easy read that flows beautifully.”
Dr. Keerti Sahasrabudhe, Bellevue, Washington
